Sega has revealed Beat from the Jet Set Radio Series will be a playable character in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania.
Super Monkey Ball returns to all major consoles and PC later this year in the form of Banana Mania. The remastered collection will feature the first three games from the series to mark the 20th anniversary of Super Monkey Ball's arrival. Even though Banana Mania won't be here until October, Sega hasn't been shy about revealing what it will include.
The latest of those reveals comes in the form of a playable character from a completely different Sega series. Beat from Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future. Beat's inclusion in Banana Mania was revealed via a new trailer. You can watch him skating through some of the remastered trilogy's stages below.

Beat joins the six familiar Monkey Ball characters already announced for Banana Mania's roster which is, of course, headed up by main character Aiai. You won't need to buy Beat or purchase one of the special edition copies of Banana Mania in order to use him either. The guest character will be included as standard, but you will need to progress through the game a little bit before you can use him.
Sega has teased that more announcements are coming over the course of the next few weeks. One of those announcements could well be the reveal that Sonic and Tails will also be playabale characters. The two of them were found buried in the Banana Mania website but Sega is yet to confirm their most famous pair will be joining Beat and Aiai. It certainly makes sense as the iconic blue hedgehog is also celebrating a big birthday this year.
Banana Mania is quickly becoming a celebration not just for Super Monkey Ball, but for everything Sega. As well as Beat and Sonic, it has also been revealed that the remaster will include Yakuza customization options, and the ability to dress up as iconic Sega consoles. Banana Mania launches on all major consoles and will be available from Steam on October 5, 2021.
