John Cena Showed Up To The Suicide Squad Premiere In Peacemaker Suit

The Suicide Squad John Cena Peacemaker

In the past few weeks, the cast of The Suicide Squad has made several television appearances to promote the film. One thing that has stood out for many fans is the fact that actor John Cena has mostly been interviewed in his Peacemaker costume. He did it again on Monday when he showed up in character for the official U.S. premiere of the James Gunn film.

Cena shared a video to his Twitter account of his arrival on the red carpet. He can be seen dressed in the Peacemaker's signature costume with his red and blue top, the character’s logo, white pants, black boots, and the iconic shiny helmet. He also carried a prop weapon and joked about how the crew wouldn’t give him “the real one.”

At the premiere, Cena posed as the character in front of a giant The Suicide Squad poster, flexing his muscles and flipping his fake gun. “I’m dressed for the occasion,” he is heard saying in the video, followed by a failed attempt at securing his prop gun into its holster. He was joined by his wife Shay Shariatzadeh, who he married in October 2020.

It’s obvious that Cena is having a lot of fun with not just his character but The Suicide Squad as a whole project. He has been heard saying in many interviews that he is just doing his part in promoting the film that they had a lot of fun filming and, in turn, increasing the hype for the already highly-anticipated flick. Director Gunn has also confirmed in the past that Cena can’t “help himself” from wanting to show up everywhere in his Peacemaker costume. During their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Gunn joked about how Cena kept stealing the costume.

Cena's character from The Suicide Squad will be next seen in HBO Max's spin-off series titled Peacemaker, with Gunn at the helm. The series has completed filming and is set for its January premiere. Gunn has written the script for Peacemaker and directed five of the eight episodes. Fans are already loving the character and are looking forward to his return after the film's release.

The Monday premiere of The Suicide Squad marked the first time that Gunn and the cast got to see the film on the big screen surrounded by a theater full of moviegoers. “This premiere is more exciting for me than most as I have never seen the film live on a big screen with an audience," Gunn tweeted. Due to the ongoing pandemic, test screenings of films have been canceled and audiences are only able to watch a film when it premieres. Of course, early reviews of The Suicide Squad did arrive, with a select number of people getting access to it early on.

The Suicide Squad will start playing in theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
