New Game

Ubisoft is one of the biggest names in the video game industry and has various major titles under its umbrella such as Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, Watch Dogs and more. At E3 2021, Ubisoft’s showcase, Ubisoft Forward, essentially commenced the festivities as the company unveiled various titles along with content and update for existing titles. One of its most notable announcements was the reveal of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, developed by Massive Entertainment and Disney, brings the world of Pandora to life as players can explore and immerse themselves in a wide open world experience. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be a standalone game wherein players, as the Na’vi, embark on a journey across the Western Frontier where they meet new, unique characters and fend off the RDA that threatens its very existence. The game is set to release in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Amazon Luna and Stadia. In a recent interview, Ubisoft provided more details on the game’s direction and creative aspects.

Jon Landau, COO of Lightstorm Entertainment and Magnus Jansen, creative director at Massive, a Ubisoft Studio, had much to say on the game. In discussing the trailer, Mr. Landau wanted players to understand that they would be given the opportunity to explore a vast landscape that the movies barely even touched upon. Mr. Jansen noted that he was excited to showcase the Snowdrop Engine’s potential, new generation hardware and more to push the limits of the game as well as create great immersion, even though the game is from a first person perspective. Furthermore, Mr. Landau stated that the Western Frontier location falls within the timeline of the movie and does not conflict with it while both interviewees noted that there was a lot to explore in the world and new elements for fans to discover. In closing, both interviewees commended the technology behind the engine and the hardware used and are confident that the game can genuinely push the limits of worldbuilding.
