LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s Traversal Looks Like a Huge Step Up

Gamescom 2021 has been one of the most anticipated gaming events of this year, and a large part of that was due to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The next installment in the widely popular TT Games franchise has had fans counting the days until release since it was announced at E3 in 2019, and now after several delays and a full year without any new previews, there is finally a new trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

This new trailer showed off a lot of what fans have been clamoring for in regards to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga's gameplay. One of the most ambitious things about the game is that TT Games is using a whole new engine from the LEGO titles it has made in the past, and the Gamescom trailer revealed as much. While the game's new combat mechanics were certainly intriguing, perhaps the most exciting aspect of the trailer was the new traversal options that players can take advantage of. In just the two minutes of gameplay that fans got to see, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga proved that this LEGO game is going to completely change the idea of what the franchise is capable of.

Galaxy-Wide Exploration In LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The Star Wars galaxy is made up of dozens of diverse and exciting worlds that each have their own unique stories. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is giving players an unprecedented amount of freedom by letting them explore almost every major planet from the films, and this new trailer finally gave players a taste of how that exploration will work.

Although it was a brief moment in the trailer, fans got to see just how the galaxy map in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will look. The various planets in The Skywalker Saga could all be seen, as well as the process of jumping through hyperspace to travel and land on any given world. It appears that players will be able to travel to any unlocked world at any given time, which will give players immense flexibility compared to LEGO games and Star Wars games of the past.

The Many Ways To Travel In LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

With all of the vast hub worlds in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, it's probably going to take some time to get from point A to point B when going through the events of each film. Luckily, TT Games seems to have come up with the perfect solution with various different vehicles and traversal options. From jetpacks to Tauntauns, The Skywalker Saga is going to have a suite of different ways for players to get around.

While this isn't entirely new for the LEGO franchise as a whole, The Skywalker Saga has ramped up the scale considerably. Arguably the best example of this was when the Gamescom trailer showed C-3PO stomping through Kashyyyk on an AT-RT walker roughly three times his size. If this is any indication, the full Skywalker Saga experience will likely have even more fun ways to traverse the galaxy far, far away.

How LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga's Traversal Builds Something New

The LEGO franchise has always implemented various traversal options in its games, but they've never quite been at the forefront of gameplay like they are in The Skywalker Saga. After this trailer, it's clear that not only will this be a revolutionary game for the LEGO Star Wars brand, but the future of LEGO gaming as a whole could look very different once The Skywalker Saga is released. These new traversal options considerably expand the possibilities of what players can do in the world, opening up the LEGO franchise from a few small hubs to a whole galaxy of opportunities.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been one of the most highly anticipated Star Wars games since it was announced, and although fans will have to wait until next spring to get their hands on it, the Gamescom trailer has shown that the wait should be worth it. Not only will this game have the biggest roster in a LEGO Star Wars game, but the new traversal options have the potential to bring the entire franchise to the next level. The wait may have been longer than many fans wanted, but at this point, it's good to see how far LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has come.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is set to release Spring 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
