Life is Strange: True Colors Nintendo Switch Version Delayed

After rumors started to swirl at the beginning of the year, Square Enix stunned fans when it announced Life is Strange: True Colors, the newest installment in its episodic adventure game series. Even more surprising is that this will be the first original installment in the series not handled by Dontnod Entertainment, the creators of the series, which has seemingly parted ways with Square Enix. After announcing multiple delays surrounding the project just yesterday, Square Enix has also announced that the franchise's debut on Nintendo Switch has been delayed, however Life is Strange: True Colors is still expected to come to the platform later this year.

Life is Strange first over the course of 2015, with the first episode of the first game launching in January and the fifth and final episode launching in October. The game was developed by French studio Dontnod, who had only previously worked on the niche action adventure title Remember Me. The studio initially found trouble pitching the game to publishers as it was often rejected for having a female protagonist, although the game was eventually published by Square Enix and went on to be a major critical and commercial success, earning over 75 game of the year awards. While Dontnod was developing Life is Strange 2, developer Deck Nine released Life is Strange: Before the Storm, a prequel to the first game, which also went on to become a major success when it released in 2017.

Now, Deck Nine is handling full development of Life is Strange: True Colors, which is essentially Life is Strange 3 in everything but name. What makes this entry and the upcoming Life is Strange Remastered Collection releases special is that they will mark the debut of the series on Nintendo Switch, with the titles most recently featuring in Nintendo's E3 Direct. Unfortunately, after also announcing that Life is Strange Remastered Collection would be delayed to early 2022 across all platforms just yesterday, Square Enix has now announced that Life is Strange: True Colors will not be coming to Nintendo Switch at launch. However, it still expects the Switch version to launch in 2021.

Life is Strange Remastered Collection is a compilation of the first Life is Strange game and the 2017 prequel Life is Strange: Before the Storm, both of which are set in the fictional rural American town of Arcadia Bay. While this collection was expected to launch just a few short weeks after True Colors, this delay means that it will not be possible for fans to experience the first two games in their remastered form before the playing True Colors. It also means that True Colors will likely come to Switch well before fans can experience the first two games (not including Life is Strange 2).

Life is Strange: True Colors will release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on September 10th 2021. The Nintendo Switch version will launch later in 2021.
