Mario Golf: Super Rush Complete Guide For Courses, Unlockables & Golf Adventure Mode

Mario Golf Super Rush Complete Guide Featured

Mario Golf: Super Rush was released at the end of June 2021 and is the sixth mainline installment in the Mario Golf series. The last one came more than seven years earlier and it seems fair to say that a lot has changed since Mario Golf: World Tour was released for the 3DS back in early 2014. Gone away are unlockable characters and many of the series' classic items to be replaced with some new and improved game types and what are undoubtedly the best graphics to ever have ever graced a Mario Golf title.

What Mario Golf: Super Rush lacks in features and content, it more than makes up for in polish and precision. When it comes to the game's weather and physics, it's far more realistic than any of its predecessors and provides players with a fun and authentic golfing experience that can be enjoyed solo, online, or locally with friends and family. This complete guide and walktrhough for Mario Golf: Super Rush will teach players everything they need to know about the game, while also keeping them informed about any news, patches, or updates.

Updated on August 8, 2021 by Tom Bowen: Much like the recent update to New Pokemon Snap, Mario Golf: Super Rush's 2.0 update came as a bit of a surprise to many. Granted, that an update would at some point arrive for both games was something of a given, but that both updates would be released so soon after their respective games' release dates and with such little warning is something that very few people will have predicted. The actual content of the update, however, was a little less shocking, with the free New Donk City course having been announced by Nintendo even before the game was released. The update also brings with it a new character in Toadette and makes some pretty big changes to the way that online play works.

Some modern video games rely on at least a basic understanding of the genre for players to be able to really sink their teeth in. Mario Golf: Super Rush is a little bit different in this regard, however, in that even those who've never played a golf game before and are completely unfamiliar with the sport itself should be able to wrap their head around how it all works pretty quickly.

The Adventure Golf mode does a pretty decent job of explaining the game's core mechanics and there's also an in-game guide for those who'd rather just jump straight into regular play. Certain mechanics can be a little trickier and more nuanced than the guides and tutorials first make out though, so anyone looking to gain a deeper understanding of the game may want to do some extra research before they tee off.

As well as a more traditional round of golf, players are able to try their hand at a number of additional game types in Mario Golf: Super Rush. The aptly named Speed Golf sees players racing to finish a set number of holes within a set amount of time, while XC golf allows players to complete holes in any order they like providing they don't go over a set number of strokes before finishing the last hole.

The final game type is called Battle Golf and also allows players to complete holes in any order. Unlike in XC Golf, however, players must compete with up to three other golfers in a race to see who can capture three of the nine available holes first. It's a lot more strategic and can be very enjoyable, although, unlike the other three game types, it doesn't feature in Golf Adventure mode and cannot be played on regular courses either.

When players first start their Mario Golf: Super Rush journey, they'll only have access to three courses during regular offline play. By playing through the games Golf Adventure mode or completing the default courses, though, they'll gradually begin to unlock more and more courses for a total of seven. There's also a special arena that's used during Battle Golf, but players won't be able to use it for any of the other game types.

Though some will perhaps be a little disappointed with how few courses are on offer, others will argue that it's very much a case of quality over quantity. It may not have many, but Mario Golf: Super Rush does at least offer a lot of variety in its courses, with each providing its own unique set of challenges for players to overcome. What's more, Nintendo and Camelot have already released one new DLC course for the game in the form of New Donk City, so there's every chance that more will at some point follow.

The main focal point of Mario Golf: Super Rush is arguably its rich and varied multiplayer gameplay, but the game also features a short single-player story mode as well. Golf Adventure sees players create their own custom Mii golfer, who'll start out as a rookie before eventually going on to save the world. It will probably be over a little too soon for a lot of people's liking, but it definitely has its moments and is a great way to learn the game's core mechanics.

Players will need to work their way through a mixture of regular, speed, and XC golf challenges and also take on a couple of boss battles. They gain experience with each round or practice session that they complete and will be able to improve their Mii golfer in a number of key areas as they start to level up. Though one or two of the challenges can be a little tricky, for the most part, Golf Adventure mode is a fun and relaxing way to experience all that's on offer in Mario Golf: Super Rush.

As is perhaps to be expected, there continues to be a steady stream of news and opinions regarding Mario Golf: Super Rush popping up online in the days and weeks following its release. The general reception has been largely positive, although some players and reviewers have criticized the game's overall lack of content, with many suggesting that it feels a little unfinished.

With Nintendo having promised to update the game with a steady stream of post-release content, however, that could all change in the coming months. Players will be able to read about any upcoming changes coming to the game here, as well as any rumors surrounding potential new content that begin to circulate.
