Mario Kart 8 Joins Microsoft Flight Simulator In New Mod

You can now fly through a handful of Mario Kart 8 tracks in Microsoft Flight Simulator thanks to a new mod you can check out in action below.

Microsoft Flight Simulator might not sound like the most exciting game in the world on the surface, but the sim continues to be an unmitigated hit. Not just because Microsoft continues to add different parts of the world to its already expansive map, as well as a new competitive multiplayer mode, but also because of the work some of its players are putting into the game's mods.

While the aim of Microsoft Flight Simulator is to simulate what it would be like to fly through the sky for real, sometimes its nice to take your plane for a spin over more fictional terrain. That's where Illogicoma's mod comes into play. The YouTuber has added Mario Kart 8 tracks to the sim, allowing you to traverse them from the comfort of your plane.

You can check out the courses in the video above. They include Moo Moo Meadows, Cloudtop Cruise, and, of course, Rainbow Road. You won't be able to drive your plane on the tracks themselves, but Illogicoma has equipped them with some floating rings to fly through in order to test your flying skills Mario Kart-style. Stick to the silver ones for a nice relaxing flight over the Mushroom Kingdom, or give the gold ones a try for something a little more challenging.

Illogicoma used an add-on to bring Mario Kart to Microsoft Flight Simulator, and they're not the first to unofficially add to what is an already expansive world. Other modders have added audio tours and even Godzilla if you want to add a little danger to your otherwise leisurely flight.

As for how long the Mario Kart tracks will remain in the game, that may be where this mod falls apart. Nintendo isn't too keen on its IP popping up in other games without its permission, let alone on a console/PC exclusive. Just last week a fanmade Metroid Prime demake was taken down by an unnamed company assumed to be Nintendo. If you want to give Microsoft Flight Simulator's Mario Kart mod a try, probably best to do it sooner rather than later.
