Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have teased future content coming to Marvel’s Avengers, and the upcoming War Table presentation.
Along with confirming the premiere date of the next War Table as February 15th, the content of that preview was hinted at. This includes the first part of OperationL Hawkeye – Future Imperfect. Past trailers had hinted at Hawkeye going missing, and it seems he may have been sent to the future.
This is based on the presence of Maestro in the image of the tweet. He is an alternate future version of the Hulk, possessing Bruce Banner’s intelligence, but Hulk’s cruelty. He first appeared in The Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect; which depicted a world devastated by nuclear war, and AIM trying to use nuclear-powered superheroes to create immunity to radiation.
The upcoming War Table will also focus on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game. No doubt this will include an updated release date for those platforms.
Nonetheless, the developers will have to work hard to keep and regain fans. The game received middling scores from critics, and harsh scorn from players [1, 2, 3].
Our own review stated “at its highest highs, Avengers is generic.” This was furthered hindered my microtransactions, rarely having enough in-game money to buy want you want (tempting you to buy more), and an out of place loot and leveling system. The game even made our list for our worst video games of 2020.
Developer Crystal Dynamics had stated they were confident in Windows PC players returning despite dwindling active-player numbers; to the due to new upcoming content and improvements.
Square Enix made a reported $61.23 million USD loss in their last quarter from HD games; with the only notable game in that period being Marvel’s Avengers; launched September 4th. Square Enix president Yosuke Matsude later stated the game did not recoup its development costs in the two months since launch.
Marvel’s Avengers is available for Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia; and 2021 for PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
