Mass Effect Fan Makes Final Fantasy-Style Cover Art | Game Rant

Mass Effect Final Fantasy Cover

With the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition earlier this year, some fans have quickly retaken to BioWare's popular franchise to share their own interpretations of the series' characters. While some fans decide to create digital artwork of some of their favorite moments and others choose to cosplay Mass Effect's most popular characters, others like to create mashups with other RPG franchises, like Square Enix's Final Fantasy games.

One of these fan artists, posting their work to Reddit as the user ecxetra, has started working on a series of mashups that combine the classic Final Fantasy styles with other games and multimedia franchises. The most recent version that applies this format to Mass Effect, however, has quickly begun to catch attention among fans of both game series.

The specific Final Fantasy style that ecxetra has taken inspiration from is in the way that the classic games in the series have designed their more simplified covers and logos. Applying this to Mass Effect 3 in this case, winds up with a striking visual that takes one of the enemy Reapers and pits pits it up against the iconic Normandy that players spend the series flying through space. The final product is a silhouette of these two icons of the series designed in a multicolor gradient set against a white background and with black, bold letters displaying the titles name over everything.

The whole effect of the art gives a very minimalistic view of the major conflict that players will be up against as they traverse the moral decisions of the Mass Effect series. As mentioned above, this isn't the only piece of cover art that ecxetra has done in this simplistic Final Fantasy inspired style. Among the artist's most popular pieces, fans have already rallied around similar covers for everything from Halo: Combat Evolved to a haunting depiction inspired by Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

When it comes to this minimalist style of Final Fantasy cover, some fans of the series still prefer these gradient logos over a stark white backdrop as the official cover art. However, these might not look entirely familiar to some players, depending on what regions they might have bought the games from, like North America which got much more elaborate cover arts. Still, the style does have its place as a possible alternate cover that invites players into Mass Effect's most thrilling missions without giving away too much of the tone before they have a chance to jump in on their own.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
