The Mass Effect Legendary Edition has proven to be a big hit for BioWare, with fans praising the drastic improvements to the games’ visuals and gameplay. One such improvement that has received particular praise is the many fixes for the Mako from the first game. The vehicle was notoriously difficult to maneuver and had the tendency to bounce around of its own accord, making it a much complained about staple of the first Mass Effect. However, while the Legendary Edition improves the maneuvering and controls of the space car, a new mod has surfaced that will revert the Mako back to its original, janky glory for some reason.
The new mod, aptly called “Jank Mako”, comes courtesy of Mgamerz over on Nexus Mods and promises to return the Mako to its “former janky self from the mid 2000s.” According to Mgamerz this mod will undo a lot of the improvements that BioWare made to the Mako that make it easier to drive around. Though, it is not a perfect re-creation of the original Mako as “some things changed in native code that cannot be modified.” Still, the mod will let you live out the good old days of desperately trying to keep the Mako going in the direction you want. Plus, you get to keep the booster which should make for even more fun as you fly about the moon.
Of course, not everyone would enjoy the Mako being returned to its “former glory.” In fact, there are other mods made specifically to improve the Mako further, like the “N7 Mako” mod that improves the vehicle's climbing abilities. There are also mods that will increase boost duration or give no cooldown period at all.
These are just some of the mods that have become available since the Legendary Edition was released, which has sparked what many are calling a “Modding Renaissance.” The updated trilogy is ripe for modding and has more potential than the original trilogy does. This makes sense as the folks at BioWare actually consulted with modders during the development of the remastered trilogy. Not only can people fix, or un-fix, the Mako but mods are available for all sorts of things in the game like toggling the HUD and adding extra keybinds to the now-expected Thomas the Tank Engine mod that shows up in just about every game these days.
