Gamesom’s Opening Night Live event this Thursday is going to be absolutely stuffed. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart are just a few of the major titles that have been confirmed to be showing up, and now Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond can be added to that list.
It’s a bit surprising that Medal of Honor is finally coming back in the form of a virtual reality title. That said, the upcoming Oculus Rift exclusive from Respawn Entertainment looks like it could nail what made the original WW2 shooters so memorable, as it will offer longtime fans a greater degree of immersion than ever before as they take part in the fight to liberate Europe from the Nazis.

Beyond the initial reveal last year, there haven’t been any further announcements, but that’s set to change during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, as host Geoff Keighley confirmed that a new story trailer will debut during the event. While that likely means there won’t be any substantial gameplay details revealed, Keighley assured fans will still enjoy it, describing the trailer as “more Respawn magic” from game director Peter Hirschmann, studio CEO Vince Zampella, and the rest of Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond’s development team.
2020 has already shaped up to be a strong year for virtual reality, what with the critical success of Half-Life: Alyx, and it looks set to end on a high note with Above and Beyond, which Keighley says is still on track to launch before year’s end.
Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will launch this holiday season for Oculus Rift.
