In the run-up to Metroid Dread's release this October, Nintendo has been drip feeding trailers and screens to keep fans satiated for Samus' grand return. Today, the company unveiled a new trailer that not only confirms Samus will be battling with the long-thought extinct Chozo, but that she'll be facing off against some of her old foes once again. Front and center in this particular trailer is Kraid, the giant demon that blew 90s kids minds in Super Metroid.
As well as enemies, this trailer gives us a better look at the new movement options that Samus will have at her disposal. We already knew about the expanded melee counter move, but Samus will finally be able to dash around like Mega Man X. The 360 degree aiming from Metroid: Samus Returns is present and we even see the return of the grapple beam.

More impressive than any of these gameplay details is the fact that the game runs at 60 FPS during gameplay. Metroid Dread looks rather impressive from a graphical standpoint, but the fluidity of motion absolutely sells Samus' expanded moveset. It should certainly make for some intense combat, too.
Metroid Dread is still on track for its October 8, 2021, release date. Nintendo won't be releasing a special themed Switch console, but the updated OLED model will release alongside Samus' latest adventure (and could technically be called a special edition). There's also a fancy collector's edition you can pick up, though good luck finding it at this point.
