Michael Keaton Shares What It Was Like Putting The Batsuit Back On For The Flash

Fans are beyond excited to see Michael Keaton suited up and back on the big screen. Given how much time has passed, Keaton is still regarded today as the ultimate Bruce Wayne. The way that Keaton portrayed and approached the character ultimately shaped critics' and audience’s view of superhero movies altogether. He used humor in order to differentiate on screen whether or not he is embodying Wayne or Batman in any given scene.

These days, superhero movies are leaning even more so towards creating comic relief and dialogue that is packed with laughs as much as it is action. Keaton in many ways has left such a permanent mark not only for just playing Batman, but his intention and thought behind it as well. In an interview with Jake Hamilton, Keaton revealed what it was like to return to playing Batman. Surprisingly enough, Keaton stated that “It was shockingly normal. It was weird and like I went, 'oh yeah that’s right.'"

For Keaton, returning to the physicality of Batman was an innately intuitive process. "As you start to play the scenes, it was like a lot of memories,” he said. The action scenes that Keaton has to perform are not easy tasks, but for him, it’s like muscle memory. However, Keaton did recall that he had so many memories come up from his past – nostalgia and moments on set that he may have otherwise forgotten. His partner in crime behind the lens, Tim Burton, was also brought up in the interview as he continued to dive further into his past.

Keaton stated that he hasn’t been in conversation with Burton, specifically on him reprising the role as Batman – but he clarifies it’s only because they "have other stuff to talk about.” Interestingly enough, Keaton won’t be the only star to mark their return as Batman. Actor Ben Affleck will also be suiting up once more in The Flash. Keaton has already set the foundation of Batman as having dual sides to his personality, so the ideology behind multiple versions of Batman on screen now is more cohesive.

It wouldn’t be a proper reincarnation of Batman if Keaton didn’t get asked if he has once again said the iconic, “I am Batman” phrase. However, Keaton was careful not to give anything away. He claimed jokingly that the internet connection was disrupting his ability to hear the question. Either way, it seems given his more private nature that there are so many secrets yet to be released.

The Flash is set to premiere on November 4th, 2022.
