Square Enix have announced Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier and Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis; both mobile games.

When both titles were trademarked [1, 2], many speculated if they could be related to Final Fantasy VII prequel Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. This could not be further from the truth.

As stated by the Final Fantasy VII Remake Twitter account, Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier is “a battle royale game set in Midgar before the events of FFVII. As a SOLDIER candidate, make full use of your abilities in a battle for your survival.” The teaser also states this is 30 years before the events of the main game, and that the player themselves will become the first SOLDIER.

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is described as “a chapter-structured single player game covering the whole of the FFVII timeline – including the events of the original game and the FFVII compilation titles.” This may mean it will follow the events of Final Fantasy VII closer than Remake, also providing context for players who have not played the original.
