Monster Hunter Rise is Crossing Over With Okami | Game Rant

The second major Monster Hunter Rise collaboration event is coming soon, and the next crossover game seems like a perfect fit. While Capcom stayed within franchise lines for Monster Hunter Rise's collaboration with Monster Hunter Stories 2, this time the PS2 original Okami will be featured. A new trailer shows Okami's white wolf protagonist, Amaterasu, bounding across areas in Monster Hunter Rise and will be the main content fans can expect in the upcoming crossover.

For gamers unfamiliar with Okami, it's an action-adventure game with a cel-shaded visual style inspired by Japanese ink wash paintings. The story follows the sun goddess Amaterasu as she fights demons in Japan in order to remove a curse from the land. Her white wolf form is beautiful, fierce, and is an excellent look for a Palamute companion in Monster Hunter Rise. The look comes as a layered armor set called the "Ammy Costume," which includes the white wolf's flaming disc and features a trail of flowers behind the costumed Palamute when it sprints.

The Okami collaboration for Monster Hunter Rise will arrive on July 30, the day after players will be able to download some sticker sets featuring the Kamura twins Hinoa and Minoto. The Palamute layered armor set will be available as an Event Quest reward. Once players outfit their Palamutes as the sun goddess, they can recreate memorable boss fights like the Spider Queen or Nagi in Okami by fighting Monster Hunter Rise's Rakna-Kadaki or Magnamalo. The Okami content is free for anyone who already owns the game.

Monster Hunter Rise players can expect several more collaboration DLCs after this one. So far Capcom has outlined one event for August and two later on in the Fall. Fans had been asking for Amaterasu to make it into Monster Hunter Rise before it was confirmed, so it could be that more fan requests happen to make it as future content. Other games players want in Monster Hunter Rise crossover content include NieR, Metal Gear Solid, and Shin Megami Tensei. Both NieR and Metal Gear Solid have had crossovers with Monster Hunter games before, so there is precedent.

For gamers who haven't yet tried out Monster Hunter Rise, it's added several new mechanics to the Monster Hunter series that have received a lot of praise. There is also a scheduled PC port of the game due to arrive sometime early next year, so PC players can look forward to that. The latest monsters added to the game were Crimson Glow Valstrax and Apex Zinogre as part of update 3.0, and so far Capcom hasn't confirmed which monsters will be added next.

Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC port is expected to launch in early 2022.
