If you've played other Monster Hunter titles before, you'll likely be familiar with the concept of traps. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruins also has traps that you can use against enemy monsters, each of which is used in a different way.

Trapping monsters is not only helpful in battle, but can sometimes be part of the requirement of making a monster retreat, so it's definitely worth having some on hand at all times. Where to Get Shock Traps And What They Do

You can purchase the recipe for Shock Traps from the Melynx Inc. NPC for 8 Bottle Caps (once you have progressed enough in the story to unlock this NPC). You can then use the Combine function from the Camp Menu to create them using the following ingredients:

Shock Traps only work on monsters who use a Power attack. Once a Shock Trap has been used, it will trigger when an enemy monster uses a Power attack and will shock them, stopping them from acting for two rounds.

Where to Get Pitfall Traps And What They Do

You can purchase the recipe for Pitfall Traps from the Melynx Inc. NPC for 8 Bottle Caps. You can then use the Combine function from the Camp Menu to create them using the following ingredients:

Pitfall Traps only work on monsters who use a Speed attack. Once a Pitfall Trap has been used, it will trigger when an enemy monster uses a Speed attack and it will stop them from acting for two rounds.

Where To Get Tranq Traps And What They Do

You can purchase the recipe for Tranq Traps from the Melynx Inc. NPC for 8 Bottle Caps. You can then use the Combine function from the Camp Menu to create them using the following ingredients:

Tranq Traps only work on monsters who use a Technical attack. Once a Tranq Trap has been used, it will trigger when an enemy monster uses a Technical attack and it will stop them from acting for two rounds.

Where To Get Trap Tools

You can find Trap Tools by gathering from the junk piles that you come across in the world. These gathering spots will commonly give either Trap Tools or Throwing Knives.

Additionally, the later villages and cities that you encounter in the game, such as Lulucion and Nua Te Village have Trap Tools for sale for 200z each at the Market NPC.
