Mr. Prepper: How To Get Glass, Metal, and Stone

Quick Links

One of your first proper missions in Mr. Prepper is to build a rocket ship in an attempt to escape Murricaville. Doing so requires a hefty amount of metal, glass, and stone. When you first unlock this Escape Plan mission, you can't even access the areas that produce some of these resources for you. Later on in the game, you'll find yourself needing a butt-load of these basic materials for an abundance of things.

You'll have to unlock areas and craft tools to get what you need. At first, you can disassemble almost everything you own at your workbench and convert them into these materials, but you'll regret it later. During Inspection, your house must look like a normal, lived-in house, or else. Because of this, you can't disassemble too many plates and boxes. Below are the steps you need to take to be able to acquire these materials in a more sustainable way.

How To Get Stone In Mr. Prepper

There is no way to get stone at the beginning of the game when you first unlock the Escape Plan to build a rocket ship. You will have to work toward unlocking the mines to have access to stone.

To do this, you have to explore the Forest and find Jenny. Once you help Jenny with her wolf problem, she will ask you to bring her some mushrooms, which are found in the mines. Your map will unlock the location of the mines and the NPC Bob.

How To Repair The Mines

You have to repair the elevator mine shaft for Bob before you can venture forth. Speak to Bob to activate this quest. Repairing it costs you ten pieces of metal. Once it's repaired, you'll have to find key cards for other levels of the mines if you want to explore further. The first one is found by interacting with the elevator and choosing to go down.

After repairing the elevator, you can go down from where you are or travel to a level by interacting with the keypad beside the elevator. Where ever you go, you'll find stone sitting in the walls. You can harvest or grab these and bring them home. Each new area you discover in the mines will have some.

In lower levels of the mine, you'll come across big rocks you cannot pass. You'll need to use a pickaxe to break these and acquire the stone and other resources they drop. To acquire a pickaxe, you have to purchase one from Bob. This can be done by interacting with your mailbox and finding his trading shop.

TIP: By disassembling the pickaxe at your workbench you can receive its recipe to craft more.

How To Get Glass In Mr. Prepper

The most basic way to get glass is by grabbing the green plates in your kitchen and dismantling them at the workbench. This gives you one glass each. You need at least four plates in your home to look normal to the inspector, but you start off with around twenty so you can afford to lose some at the beginning.

The next sustainable way to get glass is by smelting stone. To smelt anything, you need a furnace. For stone, you need to enter the mines.

How To Get A Furnace

You can't craft a furnace until you upgrade your workbench to level two. To upgrade your workbench in Mr. Prepper, you need a lot of metal, wood, and stone. When you're in the crafting menu, the first item on the list will always be a next-level workbench. This is where you can see what you need for your next upgrade.

Workbench Upgrade Materials Needed
Level 0 5 metal and 15 wood
Level 1 15 metal, 15 wood, and 5 stone
Level 2 30 metal and 30 glass

Level one will give you access to very basic furniture items such as a wooden box, bunk, shelf, and table. You'll also be able to craft the first melee weapon, a baseball bat, and a simple trap.

Level two of the workbench upgrades will allow you to craft a furnace, steam generator, dryer, and other very important things. To craft a furnace, you will need ten stone.

Once you've found all the stone you need in the mines to build a furnace, you can insert and smelt stone into glass for further use.

How To Get Metal In Mr. Prepper

Metal is the easiest material to get at the beginning of the game. You can disassemble the random colorful containers in your kitchen for a good amount of metal. You do need a certain amount of each size in your house as to not arouse suspicion during Inspection, though.

The good thing about this material is that you can easily trade and buy more boxes when interacting with your mailbox. This means you don't have to sacrifice your suspicion by getting rid of every box in your house and can instead just bulk buy the number of boxes you need to disassemble into metal. You can't do this forever, unfortunately — especially when you need to save up money for more important things.

The other way to get metal in Mr. Prepper is to smelt iron into metal by using the furnace. The furnace can be crafted with a level two workbench. Iron can be found in the mines in a couple of different ways:

  • Fuel excavators and wait
  • Loot storage containers
  • Destroy big rocks
