Developer Experiment 101 have announced an update in the works for Biomutant; implementing community feedback.

The news comes via the game’s official Twitter, declaring the update will come to Windows PC first, then console platforms. Said update aims to have bug fixes and “changes based on community feedback.”

These changes will include “pacing of dialogues, narrator settings, difficulty settings, video settings like depth of field and motion blur, loot and enemy tuning as well as sound and combat.”

Publisher THQ Nordic was more then willing to defend the game against its harshest critics however. As the Twitter account for the game admitted “the [review] scores are all over the map,” THQ Nordic aimed its sights on two different reviews at total odds with one another.

Metacritic stated the game “THQ’s new open-world action/RPG game excels at the former (its world design) but struggles with combat;” while PCGamesN stated the game had “A vibrant art style and fluid combat, hindered by some seriously repetitive open world design.” In response THQ Nordic posted the confused Nick Young meme.

Some felt THQ Nordic were criticizing the reviewers for giving anything but a purely positive review, or that different reviewers would have different opinions. THQ Nordic clarified the latter was exactly the point. “Things that one person might like could be off-putting for others,” THQ Nordic tweeted. “Which is why we recommend watching gameplay or trying it yourself!”

Others realized the intention, and took the comment in good faith. Others, such as Josh Gaming, were glad to see THQ Nordic strike back at what they felt were biased critics. “Why do games journalists hate @THQNordic games? They did the same thing with SpongeBob SquarePants Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated and that was incredible and everything I had hoped for.”

We also discussed How Reviewer Bias Hurts Gaming in a video; much like how The Last of Us Part 2 was praised by critics but loathed by gamers; and the inverse for SpongeBob. We also discussed how while game reviewing is still important, maybe it is best to move away from an all important single number to determine a game’s worth, especially when the reviewer can be easily made biased.

Whether Experiment 101 will listen to fans or critics in regards to feedback is unknown; but the use of community feedback would suggest the former.
