Snow King Boss Guide – Mario Golf: Super Rush

Quick Links

If you're playing through Mario Golf: Super Rush's Adventure Mode so you can unlock all of the courses, you might find this challenge to be a bit… Unfair. The Snow King is a powerful boss fight, and it often feels like you don't have all of the necessary tools to survive. That's not true, of course, and in this guide we'll give you everything you need to win.

This fight is characterised by the fact that, yes, you win by using golf (is this The Last of Us Part 2?), but it doesn't give you much information on what you need to do. Attacks will come flying at you, and it's not immediately clear on how to counter, avoid, and win.

We're going to break down the entire boss fight here, so follow these steps and you'll soon know everything you need in order to take down this fearsome fight.

Take Down The Crystals

The Snow King will have a powerful shield surrounding him, and it's powered by up to four crystals that are on the edges of the room. You'll know a crystal is active if it is shooting a beam of light towards the Snow King. Near each crystal is a set of Bob-ombs which you can tee-off with, and you need to shoot those at the crystals to deactivate them. Don't worry about aiming, there's no wind here, just hit them hard. Once the Snow King is vulnerable, you can aim the Bob-ombs directly at him.

Avoiding The Snow King's Attacks

The Snow King will summon smaller snowmen that throw snowballs at you, which can interrupt your shots, in addition to shooting a variety of icy projectiles your way, which will be marked on the ground with large impact indicators. Stay out of their way – and don't let them hit the Bob-ombs, either, otherwise they'll detonate and you'll have to wait for them to respawn. There is a ring of ice surrounding the Snow King, and you can use this to quickly travel around the small stage. The only attack you can't avoid using this method is the shockwave, which you will have to jump over. Each attack will deplete your Body Temp, and once it hits the bottom, you fail.

Knocking Back The Big Snowball

Eventually, the Snow King will charge up and launch a giant snowball, and this one is particularly deadly. You will know this is the large snowball, as the impact outline on the ground will expand from the centre to show its girth. In order to knock back this giant snowball, you'll need to jump on a platform from a snowball that has already hit the floor. When the snow is piled up in a mound after a failed attack, you will be able to set up on the snow pile and hit the snowball back at the Snow King, doing huge damage. You can even knock back the giant snowball while the Snow King has a shield active.
