NEO: The World Ends With You – How To Raise Your Groove

NEO: The World Ends With You is the sequel to the 2007 Nintendo DS game, The World Ends With You. While NEO has a few mechanics and elements that will be familiar to fans of the original, there are a number of new features, such as players being able to control more than one character during battle.

There is one particular element of battle that is not explained straight away, and that's the Drop The Beat prompt — something that helps to raise your Groove. So what are either of these things? Well, we'll explain it all to you right here.

What is the Drop The Beat Prompt?

If you fulfill certain requirements when attacking an enemy with a psych, the Beatdrop gauge will appear, prompting you to "Drop The Beat". These requirements are usually chaining a number of the same psych attacks in quick succession, or pulling off a charged psych attack.

Once the "Drop The Beat" gauge appears, it will immediately begin to deplete. Attack the enemy with a different psych attack before the gauge fully runs out to increase your Groove — that's the percentage at the top of your screen. Successfully dropping the beat will increase your Groove by 15% each time.

What is Groove?

Your Groove percentage is shown at the top of the screen during battle. Once you reach 100% Groove by successfully dropping the beat multiple times, you can initiate a Mashup attack by pressing O/A. Mashups are powerful psych combos that deal a decent amount of damage. Performing a Mashup attack resets your Groove meter to 0%. Any unused Groove will carry over to your next battle.
