New Dying Light 2 Trailer Showcased At Gamescom

A new episode of Dying 2 Know, the web series for Dying Light 2 updates, premiered at Gamescom and focused on parkour and combat.

The new episode was titled "Dying 2 Know, Gamescom Edition" and had members of Techland discussing some of the movement options available in the game and how they can be used in combat as well as traversal.

The developers claim that they have taken everything they learned from the first Dying Light and put it into the sequel. They claim that there are hundreds of new animations, especially in regards to monkey bars, ropes, and climbing. After talking about how traversal works in the game, Techland showcased how it can be used in combat as well, showing the player bouncing between enemies and using momentum to attack.

According to this episode, the game will feature a system called "progressive hit reactions", which will mean that enemies react differently depending on how many times you hit them. Techland also worked with professional stuntmen to motion capture realistic movements and reactions to attacks.

After showing a trailer we got to see earlier in the week, Techland then talked about the game's weapons and how you can modify them, before going into detail on Dying Light's Switch port.

We also got to see a bit of Dying Light 2 during Xbox's Gamescom show earlier in the week. The new footage shown there showcased how combat against human enemies plays out, as well as showing more of the world and parkour systems. It also revealed that the sequel has double the parkour moves of the original. Thankfully, the dropkick is still front and centre.

It was also revealed earlier in the week that Dying Light 2 will support DLSS and ray-tracing. On the subject, Techland's rendering director Tomasz Szalkowski said, "Ray tracing enhances the realism of our unforgiving, infected world while Nvidia DLSS provides a massive performance boost without sacrificing image quality, so you’ll never miss a beat traversing the landscape".
