A new teaser for Metroid Dread has been released and it hints at some of the game's story beats and atmosphere.
The teaser was posted by Nintendo Japan over on Twitter, although it was soon removed after being uploaded. The trailer has since been reposted and it has been revealed to be part of the Metroid Dread reports that Nintendo has been releasing.

Although the trailer is only a short 30-second teaser, it gives the best look so far at Metroid Dread's story, as well as showing off its dark atmosphere. The trailer starts by showing Samus landing on an alien planet and finding hieroglyphics that show the Chozo and other figures. The footage also seems to indicate that Samus will see a Chozo in person, before showing flashbacks of their history. Some of the scenes shown in the teaser are actually recreations of scenes from previous games.
Within those flashbacks, you can see some Metroid attacking the Chozo, as well as a few instances of the E.M.M.I. robots that are featured in Metroid Dread. It seems like the Chozo had some involvement in their creation, as they appear together. The footage then shows flashbacks specifically to Metroid Fusion, before showing Samus getting visibly upset. The teaser ends with a shot of Samus' hand glowing purple and ready to attack. It's made pretty clear from this teaser, which is titled "Metroid Dread – A Scale of Fear Part 1", that Dread is going to be a particularly atmospheric and dark game for the series.
This teaser is the final section of the fourth Metroid Dread report that Nintendo has released monthly. This fourth entry focuses on the "features and stories" of the Metroid series leading up to Dread, before ending with this teaser. The section of the report that shows this teaser also talks about "despair" that attacks Samus. It ends by saying, "What exactly is what is reflected in this video and what does it mean?"
