New Pokemon Snap Gyarados Location Guide

New Pokemon Snap recently received an update adding 20 new Pokemon, three new maps, and a neat shrinking mechanic that allows you to see Pokemon from a whole different perspective. Best of all, however, is the fact that Gyarados is finally in the game after being cut from the original roster for some ridiculous reason.

While Gyarados is technically in New Pokemon Snap now, finding it isn't quite as easy as you might like to believe. There are a few requirements you'll have to meet before being able to snap a photo of what is probably one of the most iconic Pokemon in existence, so you won't be able to get that long-coveted picture the second you finish installing the update.

That being, you can speed up the process of locating Gyarados pretty quickly. If you're in the market for that, you're in luck – here's a handy guide on where to find Gyarados in New Pokemon Snap.

New Pokemon Snap: Where To Find Gyarados

The first thing you'll need to do to find Gyarados in New Pokemon Snap is head to the new Mightyside River course. While you won't be able to lure it out right away, running the course a couple of times in a row should allow you to advance to rank two. Once you've done this, you're in business.

Unlocking rank two of Mightyside River (Day) also unlocks rank one of the night course. In order to figure out where Gyarados is, you need to play through the level at night. After going down the first waterfall, you'll see another waterfall on your right – it's right behind where Feraligatr sleeps during the day. After getting a prompt to scan it, use your scanner and you'll discover that there's a Crystabloom behind the waterfall. That's all we need to know for now.

Now that you know the location of this Crystabloom, return to rank two of the day course. Once you reach this area, start lobbing Illumina orbs at the Crystabloom until it lights up the waterfall. From here, all you need to do is keep your eyes peeled – you're about to witness a leaping Gyarados in real time.
