New World launched its closed beta in late July, and since then it's been doing pretty well for itself. The game recently hit 200,000 concurrent players on Steam and as word of mouth and content creators evangelize the game, New World has clawed its way to the peak of the Steam top sellers list last weekend.
However, it hasn't been entirely smooth sailing for New World. An earlier issue with high-end RTX 3090 video cards brought a brief scare to New World until the issue was narrowed down to EVGA's fan drivers.
Even still, other issues have come up during New World's beta, and that's led the development team to reconsider its August 31 launch date.

"We are humbled by the support New World received from players around the world throughout Closed Beta," Amazon Games said in a statement. "During Beta, more than a million adventurers played more than 16 million total hours.
"Along the way, you've also given us a ton of feedback that we'll use to make New World even better. We want New World's launch to be a smooth and fun experience for all players, and that means making some improvements based on what you encountered during Closed Beta. So we're going to take a few extra weeks to smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game."
The new launch date for New World is now September 28. This is now the second delay for New World, although, with the game’s popularity even in beta, it seems doubtful that even a month’s delay will do anything to stop its upward momentum.
