Xbox just announced its new entry-level headset, the Xbox Stereo Headset. The name sort of implies that all previous Xbox headphones weren't in stereo, but one suspects Microsoft bestowed its latest headphones with such a title to indicate just how truly generic this headset looks.
Well, mission accomplished. If one were to ever look up the word "headphones" in an online wiki, the Xbox Stereo Headset would be an ideal example image.
But let's not dwell on the averageness of the Xbox Stereo Headset's looks and let's instead dive into its value proposition. Microsoft promises the Xbox Stereo Headset will provide "clear microphone performance, high-quality ear cushions, and a volume control dial on the right earcup." This wired headset also features many of the same design elements found in the Xbox Wireless Headset, such as an adjustable headband, plush ear cups, and "clean mid & high-frequency performance with strong bass."
Perhaps best of all, the new Stereo Headset supports all current spatial sound technologies such as Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone: X.
The Xbox Stereo Headset promises to work optimally on all Xboxes and Windows PCs, but its 3.5mm audio jack will likely function just fine on other devices as well.
Expect to shell out $59.99 for the Xbox Stereo Headphones. Pre-orders are available now with deliveries set to begin on September 21.
