Destiny 2 players may be biding their time with the content the Season of Arrivals is providing them with, but most are keeping their eyes on the game’s next expansion, Beyond Light. The start of Year 4 is shaping up to potentially bring the biggest shakeup to Destiny yet, and players will get a better look at just how much so in just a few days.

Gamescom is going digital this year, and its Opening Night Live event on August 27 looks set to be the major, E3-style showcase that’s been largely missing this year. A lot of big titles are going to receive new announcements and trailers during Gamescom, and that includes Destiny 2: Beyond Light, as host Geoff Keighley announced on Twitter that ONL will boast an exclusive new glimpse at the expansion.

Alas, Keighley’s announcement merely stated that something will be shown during the event, without teasing what it could be. However, the official Destiny 2 Twitter offered a slight clue, retweeting Keighley’s post with the following message: “Embrace darkness. Tune in for a deeper look at Stasis.”

Stasis is one of the biggest changes coming to Destiny 2 with Beyond Light. This new form of power will finally introduce the long-rumored Darkness-powered subclasses, along with a new element type besides Arc, Solar, and Void. Bungie hasn’t really detailed how Stasis will work yet, but the ice-based abilities that have been shown off so far look like they could very well be the major tweak to Destiny 2’s gameplay that fans have been waiting a long time for.

Another thing that Bungie has remained tight-lipped about is Beyond Light’s narrative. The only real details that are known so far is that it will take players to the icy tundra of Europa and set up the larger story that Destiny 2’s future expansions will continue over the next few years. It’s safe to say, though, that with players set to become more entangled with the Darkness, Destiny’s story is building up to something that could change the franchise forever.

It’s not all good news, however, as it’s been confirmed that plenty of content will be removed from Destiny 2 to make way for all of the new stuff coming soon. These removals extend across pretty much the whole game, with everything from raids and strikes to Exotic quests and Crucible maps being moved into the Destiny Content Vault come November. Here’s hoping that those who are disappointed by this find something worthwhile to make up for it when the expansion finally arrives.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development. The Beyond Light expansion will launch on November 10.
