With Marvel’s Avengers now so close to release, it’s a tad surreal that it’s coming out at all, considering how much of an enigma the project was until its big reveal at E3 2019.
But before Avengers fans can throw themselves into the game after sampling its beta, which has since ended, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have one more War Table to share. For those unfamiliar, the War Tables are livestreams where the developers provide further insight into the game’s mechanics, story, etc. And judging from the description, it sounds like the next one will be quite meaty, boasting “numerous world-exclusive reveals.”

Firstly, as it is taking place on September 1st, three days before release, the stream will provide information and details to help players with getting started, such as how the game’s progression system works and how to deal with the 50+ enemies they’ll encounter.
But what’s more exciting is that the stream will be covering the first season of post-launch content that players will get to enjoy after clearing the main Reassemble story campaign. So far, the only concrete bits of post-launch content that we know of are two of the additional playable characters: Hawkeye and Spider-Man.
Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix promise to blow minds with reveals regarding future missions, modes, and locations, with the main draws being insight into future story content and one more playable character, all of which will be completely free.
So, who could this new hero be? We already have some ideas, as a purported datamine of the PC version’s beta may have revealed a full list of planned playable heroes and it is quite long, including popular Avengers mainstays like Captain Marvel and Black Panther.
Whoever it is, it’s unlikely that will assuage angry Xbox and PC owners who are still upset over Spider-Man being exclusive to the PlayStation versions of the game, with so far no plans to bring him to the other versions.
One interesting thing mentioned in the description is that more villains will be revealed. So far, we haven’t seen many recognizable Marvel villains appear in the game, aside from main baddie MODOK and boss fights Taskmaster and Abomination, both of whom were confirmed very early on and featured in the beta.
It’s possible that we’ll see who will take over as the main antagonistic force after AIM is defeated in the main story. With Captain Marvel likely to appear in the game, maybe players will get to deal with a Skrull invasion? At this point, though, we can only theorize.
Marvel’s Avengers will release for PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One on September 4th, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X releases to follow later in the year.
