Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Aiming To Be Played Competitively

Just days after its announcement, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl already has a vibrant community of fighting game fans, making character requests and posting memes. At the heart of this recent buzz is developer Ludocity, who recently spoke to Kotaku about this explosive popularity.

In the interview, two of the developers were asked about the fan response, particularly those comparing it to Super Smash Bros., and hoping it joins the ranks of competitive fighting games. Shockingly, this seems to be not just what the creators are going for, but also Nickelodeon itself, as a developer shares that the cartoon giant is "absolutely on board" with All-Star Brawl having a competitive scene.

“Nickelodeon is absolutely on board with having the game be competitively viable. That’s been in the conversation from the start. That’s why they came to us", said Ludosity CEO Joel Nyström. Another developer added that they are aiming to strike a competitive/casual balance, which in itself is quite similar to Smash Bros.

The team also shared that they've been granted a great deal of creative freedom with the game. It's been up to Ludosity staff to come up with attacks for the fighters, which they have a great deal of experience with, having also developed fighting game Slap City.

While we just have the one trailer to go on right now, the developers have been teasing more info on what we can expect from the upcoming fighting game. Not long after the announcement, one member of the team revealed that All-Star Brawl will use rollback netcode on some platforms. This is ideal for fighting games with online multiplayer, as it means that even with a rough internet connection, players shouldn't notice any lag. Humorously, this could make the online better than that of the Smash series, which has never implemented it – and as anyone who uses it can tell you – could really do with it.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl does not currently have an official launch date. However, leaks suggest it could be with us later this year.
