After months of Switch Pro rumours, Nintendo finally revealed its new hardware SKU – but it would seem that under the hood, the Switch OLED Model is very much the same beast as the original Switch.
While there were rumours that the new version would boast a more powerful processor to handle 4K output when docked, these have proven to be inaccurate – in regards to this model, at least.
Nintendo has confirmed to The Verge that:
Nintendo Switch (OLED model) does not have a new CPU, or more RAM, from previous Nintendo Switch models.
What the OLED Model does offer is a bigger, better screen, enhanced audio and a redesigned dock which now includes a LAN port.
The Switch OLED Model launches alongside Metroid Dread on October 8th, and will retail for $349.99 in North America and around £310 in the United Kingdom.
Nvidia – the company which produces the Tegra X1 Mariko "system on a chip" that powers both the Switch and Switch Lite – is reported to be bringing production of the SoC that powers all three Switch models to an end this year.
