Nintendo Direct Mini: Hitman 3—Cloud Version Announced

Agent 47 is the star of the Hitman franchise, a series where players must pull off a variety of different assassination plots. Hitman has never had much of a presence on Nintendo hardware, with Hitman 2: Silent Assassin on GameCube likely being most fans’ main source of knowledge about the franchise. That’s all set to change when Hitman 3—Cloud Version comes to Nintendo Switch!

The word “cloud” in the title comes as little surprise given how technologically demanding this third part of the World of Assassination trilogy. Switch is no slouch when it comes to processing, but some of the current-gen games prove to be a bit much for the hybrid console to handle. In Japan, developers like Capcom have found a workaround in the form of cloud-based versions of popular titles like Resident Evil 7. Developer/publisher IO Interactive is taking this approach with Hitman 3, with the game only playable via an Internet connection and remote access, a first for Nintendo Switch players in the West.

What this boils down to is you’ll only be able to play Hitman 3 on Switch if you have a solid web connection, and you won’t ever technically be able to own it given the game must be played via servers. Regardless, this will be a nice option for those looking to play Hitman 3 without having to purchase another console. There’s no set release date yet, but we will update as soon as we learn of one.
