The Oddworld Inhabitants really need to sort their naming conventions out as Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD will launch on PlayStation & Xbox Platforms on February 11th 2022. It will run at 4K and 60 fps and shouldn’t be confused with Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD for Switch which only does 1080p docked and 780p handheld. Nor should it be confused with 2012’s Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD for PS3 and Xbox One which ran at 1080p, or indeed Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD for PS Vita which managed 554p.

It’s seventeen years since the game first launched and we’ve reviewed various versions of the title and those reviews are a bit of eye opener as it shows just how the market is evolved. Here’s what Dan had to say in our 2012 review:

There’s no doubt about it, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD is punching well above its £9.99 price bracket. The production values coupled with over ten hours of quality gameplay mean the game would easily be worth £40 if stuck on the shelf of your local retailer.

Forty quid for a ten hour game? Those were the days. That version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD scored an excellent 9/10. Dan had a look at the PS Vita version of the title a few months later and had this to say:

So – is Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD on the Vita worth your hard-earned £9.99? If you haven’t played the PS3 version then the answer is “absolutely”. All of the praise I lavished upon the game back in 2011 still holds true today. The story is interesting, the world is brilliant, the gameplay refreshing and the Live Ammo system is still a joy to use. £9.99 for a 10-12 hour game of this calibre is an absolute steal, and Vita owners should lap this up.

A bargain! £9.99 for 12 hours of playtime! Is this where I point out that the press release for the new version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD states the price is $19.99?
