Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 started strong, as the Among Us-like Double Agent mode accompanied two new maps in Slums and Echelon. Now, another map is imminent, as the next free Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War addition is dropping today.
Last night, Treyarch announced that the game’s August 26 playlist update will also double as the return of Drive-In. Drive-In first appeared in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops from 2010, with the map being a lot of fun for those that experienced it. Unfortunately, the number of players who got to try out the original map is likely on the low end, as it was a DLC map for that game. As such, it has not been remastered in the ten years that have passed since its first appearance, making its comeback a surprise.

Adding to the unexpectedness of Drive-In’s return is the fact that it is not a Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 remaster. Thus far, Treyarch has doubled down on remaking maps from the 2012 game, something that has been a major negative and major positive depending on which players are asked. Some players love remasters, while others are burnt out, though it seems like both sides will be seeing more of them in the final Seasons of the game.
While it remains to be seen if any more Call of Duty: Black Ops-specific map remasters will come, as Yemen and Plaza from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 have already leaked, at least fans know they will be playing Drive-In very soon. Alongside confirmation that the map is releasing later today, Treyarch shared a video that gives a look at its map layout. The brief clip mixes in shots of the in-game theater as well as the overhead view of the various areas that players will be fighting through.
Treyarch has also shared the playlists that will accompany Drive-In, and fans of the map should be happy to know what is coming. Drive-In 24/7 will be live today, with a close quarters variant of the Double Agent mode and 3v3 Knife Fight also appearing. While many expected Drive-In to he kept until Season 5 Reloaded, its addition may be tied to the double battle pass XP weekend that starts on August 27. With a new map and speedy XP on offer, players will have a solid alternative to the Call of Duty: Vanguard Alpha.
With Zoo coming later in Season 5 and a remaster of Grid also possible, Treyarch is showing some love to the game that started the Black Ops series. For those particularly fond of the forgotten classic Drive-In, though, today’s update should prove particularly exciting.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
