Overwatch has been in the market for five years now. After all of this time, the team now confirms one of the most anticipated updates: crossplay across all platforms!
The announcement of the new crossplay update was made via the official web, their Twitter account, and a Developer Updates video that they published on YouTube. The platforms that have benefitted from this new update are PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Players may now play online with friends from other systems or random gamers. You must first register a Battle.net account (which I’m sure you’ve already done) in order to receive access.
Following that, you’ll need to link your system’s account to Battle.net’s. As a consequence, you will have the opportunity to play with individuals from all over the world. Furthermore, the company wants to incentivize this change by giving away a golden loot box, which guarantees a legendary Overwatch item. You must do so by the end of 2021.
Launch date
At the moment, Blizzard just says that crossplay is “coming soon.” We’ll let you know when we learn more.
No cross-progression
However, not all good news is created equal. Cross-platform progression is disallowed; you’ll have to stay on the same platform to maintain everything gained. Concerning the game modes that will support crossplay, it is vital to highlight that all but Competitive will be able to enable it.
