Overwatch Trick Lets Widowmaker Grapple Forever | Game Rant

Players are always looking for a way to gain a competitive advantage in games such as Overwatch. With a wide array of popular heroes in Overwatch, each with a unique set of abilities, teams have come up with some impressive techniques to win matches. Despite releasing back in May of 2016, some players continue to find new tricks for certain heroes in the game. Recently, one fan discovered a new way of using Widowmaker's grapple ability when paired with Symmetra's teleporter.

Discovered by a Reddit user known as McMagicMarv, the new trick is interesting. While it might look difficult to achieve, it is available for any Overwatch team to use as long as they have Widowmaker and Symmetra. According to McMagicMarv, the key to pulling off this odd maneuver is to position Widowmaker in line with both ends of the teleporter. This allows the player to fire through both sides of the teleporter and attach the grapple hook to an object beyond the portals. As soon as they begin to grapple, the player needs to then teleport. Before attempting to infinity grapple, the Reddit user pointed out that Widowmaker must have used the teleporter at least once.

While this might seem like a nightmare to Overwatch players that deal with Widowmaker smurfs in the lower ranks of the game, the effectiveness of this tactic in an actual match seems questionable. While one person on Reddit suggested that the tactic could be used to stall the capture of a point, other characters such as Wrecking Ball or Lucio probably could be used to serve the same purpose. In the Reddit thread, McMagicMarv pointed out that Widowmaker isn't the only hero capable of taking advantage of Symmetra's teleporter. Wrecking Ball, another character equipped with a grapple gun, can do a similar maneuver. Even though this new trick might not become the new meta in the Overwatch Pro League, fans on Reddit seem to think the new exploit looks fun to try out.

This is just one of a number of ways teams have been using Symmetra's teleporter to reposition in Overwatch. When used correctly, Symmetra players have the ability to help their team reposition to key locations during the chaos that often unfolds in the game's skirmishes. While the teleporter can be placed near team spawn zones to help respawned heroes return to the fight faster, another popular option is to place a teleporter on the other side of a contested choke point. This allows the team with Symmetra to reposition behind their opponents to gain control of the point undetected.

It will be interesting to see if the developers at Blizzard address this newly revealed exploit moving forward. However, based on its questionable effectiveness and difficulty to execute in a match, it seems like the trick has a decent chance at remaining in the game.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
