Elden Ring creators shared additional details through an official website update, revealing some exciting new features. Among them are an emphasis on stealth, weather and environment usage in combat, and dozens of different skills at players’ disposal.

For too long Elden Ring has hidden in the shadows, forcing fans to create the game’s lore and bosses for themselves, sharing the wildest ideas across the web. Finally, FromSoftware began to slowly lift the shroud of mystery, for the first time revealing gameplay at Summer Game Fest. While many aspects of Elden Ring remain unknown, the recent update on the official site offers a pretty decent look at the game’s main features.

As you may know, Elden Ring is being created in cooperation with acclaimed writer George R. R. Martin, who developed the project’s story and lore several years ago, and even called the new game “a sequel to Dark Souls.” You will play as an outcast Tarnished, exploring the Lands Between on foot or with your ephemeral steed. Your purpose is to claim the Elden Lordship promised by legend. There will be war, a shattered ancient Order, and six warped Lords — Demigods, holding shards of the Elden Ring.

Through your journey, you will encounter “adversaries with profound backgrounds, characters with their own unique motivations for helping or hindering your progress, and fearsome creatures.” Some of the inhabitants may have answers for you if you help them. Therefore, there will be additional quests and assignments that will enrich your experience and reward you in an unusual way.

The world of Elden Ring features “vast fantastical landscapes and shadowy, complex dungeons that are connected seamlessly.” The Lands Between filled with different biomes and many sites of grandeur “on a scale never seen before in a FromSoftware title.” You can explore this rich environment alone or online with other players.

The upcoming title will let you experiment with a wide variety of weapons, magical abilities, arcane spells, and dozens of battle skills found throughout the world. You can decide how to approach exploration and combat by yourself, straight charging into battle on the horseback, picking off enemies one by one with stealth, summoning familiar spirits to even the odds against you, or even calling upon allies for aid. Moreover, you can “use the environment, the weather, and the time of day to gain an advantage” in combat.

All of the above sound at least very promising, and you can dive deep into FromSoftware’s next project soon enough. Elden Ring arrives next year on January 21 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
