Sega’s Phantasy Star Online 2 hit Xbox One and PC in the West this year but something bigger is coming up. Unveiled during the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis promises to revamp the core experience. Check out the announcement trailer below.
Along with a more streamlined interface, there’s a serious bump in visual quality all around. While Sega didn’t outright list all the changes coming, it did bill the game as being “redesigned as a best-in-class online action RPG experience”. Considering Phantasy Star Online 2’s age, we’d say it’s well overdue for an upgrade but better late than never.
Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is out in 2021 for PC, Xbox Series X and Xbox One. Will the upgrade be available for the Japanese version on PS4 and Nintendo Switch or is this is an Xbox exclusive content drop? Time will tell so stay tuned for more details and check out our review of the base game here.
