PlayStation Fans Petition Against Kojima’s Xbox Deal

Hideo Kojima Xbox Guy

PlayStation fans have started a petition in an attempt to stop Hideo Kojima's imminent deal with Xbox going ahead.

Following rumors and reports that Hideo Kojima will be working on a major project with Xbox in the near future, the two parties signed a letter of intent this week. While that doesn't mean a deal between the two has been finalized, it is effectively the last step before what is almost an inevitability at this point.

That reality appears to have set in for some avid PlayStation fans. Upon hearing that Kojima will be working on what will presumably a pretty major Xbox exclusive, someone created a petition in a vain attempt to prevent the Xbox deal from happening. "Kojima is betraying his loyal fans. He has been blinded by greed. We must help him come back to the winning side," the petition's description reads at Change.org.

Sadly, the petition does not appear to be some kind of joke. On the bright side, at the time of typing, only 54 people have signed it. Odds are it'll take a lot more angry PlayStation owners than that to stop Kojima from moving forward with what will be a pretty major project. Xbox has already recruited Portal creator Kim Swift to work alongside Kojima on whatever he has planned.

What's more, despite still being very early on in proceedings, it currently seems as if Kojima will be free to continue working with other studios as well as Xbox. So yes, that does include Sony, and it also means PS5 owners eagerly awaiting for the Director's Cut of Death Stranding have nothing to worry about. Kojima's work elsewhere will continue for now, and likely will after the Xbox deal has been finalized too.

The petition mentions not having internet capable of streaming games, perhaps a fair concern moving into gaming's distant future, especially if you own an Xbox. However, the complaint that not everyone has enough money to buy a new console from a PlayStation fan is a little odd. Eight months into the newest generation of consoles and so far, Xbox has done more to preserve its past and work on backward compatibility than its rival.
