Pokemon Fan Creates Incredible Custom ‘Flameboy’ Charizard Game Boy

It's been twenty-five years since the original Red and Blue Pokemon games were released for the Game Boy, but it seems the love for the original starters is still going strong. Reddit user and Pokemon fan Takezoretoro adds to this fan-dedication with a beautiful custom Charizard Game Boy Color.

The talented fan has dubbed their creation the 'Flameboy Color', in honor of the Gen-I starter. Befitting of the fire-type Pokemon, the case is a sparkling ruby-red color, and features a black outlined picture of Charizard in the middle. The buttons are a darker shade of red, and 'Flameboy Color' is displayed under the screen, replacing the traditional 'Game Boy Color' logo of the beloved handheld console.

Fellow Pokemon fans are showing their love for the design in the comments of the Reddit post, and asking where they can buy one. Takezoretoro previously received a similar reaction when they showed off their custom Gengar Game Boy, the 'Ghost Boy', a few months ago. Both designs feature a Q5 IPS backlit screen, making it a big improvement from the original hardware, and a great way to experience classic Pokemon titles.

Both designs, and lots of other custom products are available from Takezoretoro's Instagram page. This includes a redesign of the original Pokemon Red game cartridge, that fits in perfectly with the 'Flameboy'. It features a sparkling ruby-red design, and a holographic label with the original image of Charizard displayed on it. Takezoretoro has named this 'Pokemon Red DX', and calls it 'full of life and color'.

Takezoretoro is going to create even more custom Game Boy Color designs, and has asked fellow Pokemon fans for their suggestions on what their next design should take inspiration from. Snorlax and Ditto are becoming increasingly more popular, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise if they were to feature on their own custom design. Seeing as there are over 900 Pokemon across eight generations however, there are many colorful creations that could be inspired by any of them.

There have been many Pokemon Fan Designs over the franchise's long history, and even though both the Charizard and Gengar custom Game Boys have a simple design, they really stand out. It's easy to imagine classic fan favorites like Blastoise, Venusaur, and Pikachu designs being just as effective. Whatever character Takezoretoro decides to take inspiration from next, judging from the current online reactions, it's bound to please Pokemon fans again.
