Pokemon Go Adding Seven New Galar Pokemon This Month

The final two weeks of August are going to be big ones for Pokemon Go as Niantic prepares for the introduction of seven new Galar-based Pokemon to the game.

Today's Pokemon Presents was packed with so much new information that there's every chance you missed some pretty important stuff. The reveal that Mamoswine and Sylveon are coming to Pokemon Unite, and the introduction of never-before-seen Pokemon through Legends: Arceus.. However, there was also some pretty important news revealed about Pokemon Go that may have passed you by.

A trailer for the AR game revealed that seven new Pokemon will be added to the game before the end of the month. All seven were first introduced to the wider Pokemon world via Sword and Shield's Galar region. Five will presumably be available via the usual means, in the wild and by hatching eggs, while the other two can be found in raids.

The five Pokemon you won't need to raid for are Wooloo, Greedent, Dubwool, Skwovet, and Falinks. The quintet will officially become a part of Pokemon Go during its Ultra Unlock: Part 3 event which begins on August 20, so this Friday. It's unclear how exactly the Pokemon can be discovered, but the trailer above certainly makes it seems as if they will be in the wild.

The two Pokemon available through raids will be Sword and Shield's legendary Pokemon, Zacian and Zamazenta. Zacian's raids are up first and will take place between August 20 and August 26. After that, Zamazenta will take its place and remain available via five-star raids until September 1. Although not confirmed, it seems likely that the two will then disappear from Pokemon Go until they are added to another raid rotation.

Other than the new Pokemon tumbling out of strange portals, it is the portals themselves that have intrigued Pokemon Go players. The weird discs Wooloo and co. emerge from aren't explained. They may even appear in-game starting later this week and could bring the new Pokemon to the game with them. It's also possible the portals are linked to Hoopa. The mythical Pokemon isn't officially a part of Pokemon Go's Pokedex just yet, but it can be seen in a new loading screen.
