Pokemon GO: How to Beat Arlo (August 2021) | Game Rant

While players in Pokemon GO are able to challenge other powerful players via the GO Battle League, some of the hardest challenges are presented by the NPC trainers part of Team GO Rocket. The most powerful of these trainers are the leaders of the evil organization with players able to earn valuable prizes via their defeat.

One of the Team GO Rocket leaders that players can face in Pokemon GO is Arlo. Like the rest of the leaders, he has some incredibly powerful Pokemon that can give unprepared players a whole pile of trouble. Players, however, are still able to take full advantage of the weaknesses held by these intimidating Pokemon in order to win the battle.

As with all trainer battles, Arlo will only send out three Pokemon. The first of these Pokemon will always be the same, but he has the choice between three different Pokemon for his second slot and another three Pokemon for his third slot. This means that the only way to know what specific three Pokemon Arlo will use for a battle is by battling him, losing the battle, and remembering which Pokemon he chose before going for a rematch within the same encounter.

Starting off the battle, Arlo will always use Venonat first. This Pokemon is a dual Bug and Poison-type, making it weak against Fire, Flying, Rock, and Psychic-type moves. It also benefits from resisting damage from Bug, Poison, Fairy, Fighting, and Grass-type moves. If players want to get past Venonat quickly, some of the best Pokemon to bring along for the job are:

Mewtwo – Confusion and Psystrike

Attack Form Deoxys – Zen Headbutt and Psycho Boost

Reshiram – Fire Fang and Overheat

Galarian Darmanitan – Ice Fang and Overheat

Chandelure – Fire Spin and Overheat

Up next, the three possible Pokemon that Arlo can use as his second party member are made up of Crobat, Ursaring, and Manectric. Each of these Pokemon can be quite the handful to deal with, making it highly recommended to play against their weaknesses in battle.

First off is Crobat, which is a dual Poison and Flying-type Pokemon. It is weak to Ice, Rock, Psychic, and Electric-type moves, but also resists damage from Ground, Poison, Fairy, Fighting, Grass, and Bug-type moves. If Arlo sends out this Pokemon, some of the better counters to use against it are:

Attack Form Deoxys – Zen Headbutt and Zap Cannon

Mewtwo – Confusion and Psystrike

Galarian Darmanitan – Ice Fang and Avalanche

Therian Thundurus – Thunder Shock and Thunderbolt

Alakazam – Confusion and Psychic

The next possibility for Arlo's second Pokemon is Ursaring. It is a pure Normal-type Pokemon, so it is only weak to Fighting-type moves and only resists Ghost-type moves. It can use a pretty wide variety of move types, so the best Pokemon to use against it are:

Blaziken – Counter and Focus Blast

Hariyama – Counter and Dynamic Punch

Therian Thundurus – Thunder Shock and Focus Blast

Yveltal – Snark and Focus Blast

Conkeldurr – Counter and Dynamic Punch

Moving on to the last of the Pokemon Arlo can use as his second party member, Manectric is a pure Electric-type Pokemon. This means that is it is only weak to Ground-type moves and resists damage from Steel, Electric, and Flying-type moves. While it is unable to Mega Evolve, it is still important to use counters such as:

Garchomp – Mud Shot and Earth Power

Therian Landorus – Mud Shot and Earthquake

Excadrill – Mud-Slap and Earthquake

Groudon – Mud Shot and Earthquake

Rhyperior – Mud-Slap and Earthquake

Finally, there are only three more Pokemon that players have the chance to see, with only one appearing as Arlo's final Pokemon for the battle. Out of all of these Pokemon, Scizor will be the one most likely to cause players trouble, but it still can be countered by players that think ahead.

What can be considered the weakest of Arlo's final Pokemon is Vileplume. It is a dual Grass and Poison-type Pokemon, making it weak to Fire, Flying, Ice, and Psychic-type moves. It also resists damage from Fighting, Water, Electric, Fairy, and Grass-type moves. Some of the best Pokemon players can use to make quick work of Vileplume are:

Mewtwo – Confusion and Psystike

Galarian Darmanitan – Ice Fang and Avalanche

Attack Form Deoxys – Zen Headbutt and Psycho Boost

Reshiram – Fire Fang and Overheat

Chandelure – Fire Spin and Overheat

Next is the dual Electric and Steel-type Pokemon, Magnezone. This Pokemon is weak to Ground, Fire, and Fighting-type moves while additionally resisting damage from Dragon, Ice, Psychic, Electric, Normal, Grass, Bug, Rock, Fairy, Steel, Poison, and Flying-type moves. Even with the high amount of resistances, the best Pokemon to use against Magnezone are:

Therian Landorus – Mud Shot and Earthquake

Excadrill – Mud-Slap and Earthquake

Groudon – Mud Shot and Earthquake

Garchomp – Mud Shot and Earthquake

Rhyperior – Mud-Slap and Earthquake

Finally, the last possible Pokemon Arlo can use is Scizor. It is a dual Bug and Steel-type Pokemon, making it only weak to Fire-type moves and also resisting Dragon, Ice, Psychic, Normal, Bug, Steel, Fairy, Grass, and Poison-type moves. The best counters for this Pokemon are:

Reshiram – Fire Fang and Overheat

Chandelure – Fire Spin and Overheat

Darmanitan – Fire Fang and Overheat

Blaziken – Fire Spin and Blast Burn

Moltres – Fire Spin and Overheat
