A new mythical Pokemon has come to Pokemon GO with the new Misunderstood Mischief special research tasks. This Pokemon is Hoopa, a dual Psychic and Ghost-type originally from the Kalos region. Its Confined form can be obtained after completing the required special research tasks.
This task series can be automatically started by opening up the Pokemon GO app at this time. It has sixteen steps in total with a new research tasks being revealed and available for completion over the course of the Season of Mischief event. This event will be running from September 1st, 2021 to December 1st, 2021, so there will likely be a lot of time spread out between research tasks being revealed.

Because of the nature of these special research tasks, not all of them are public knowledge as of this writing. This guide will continue to be updated as each of the new tasks are revealed, so that way trainers can prepare for what's in store for them.
Misunderstood Mischief Step One

By completing all of these tasks, players are rewarded with a Gothita encounter and 500 stardust. Gothita is a pure Psychic-type Pokemon that can evolve into Gothorita with 25 Gothita candies. Gothorita can then evolve into Gothitelle with 100 more Gothita candies.
Misunderstood Mischief Step Two
At this time, the only note for this step is "Professor Willow is currently performing an investigation regarding this research. Check back for more details soon!" That means this task won't be revealed until the future.
What to Expect from Confined Hoopa
As previously mentioned, Confined Hoopa is a dual Psychic and Ghost-type Pokemon that will most likely serve as one of the final rewards for the Misunderstood Mischief special research tasks. With its typing, Hoopa is weak to Ghost and Dark-type moves, but resists damage from Poison, Psychic, Normal, and Fighting-type moves. Due to this Pokemon not yet being officially released, it is unknown how it performs in PVP battles and its future place within the GO Battle League meta.
While Confined Hoopa is the likely end to this task series, Unbound Hoopa is an entirely different story. It is unknown when this alternate form of Hoopa will be implemented into Pokemon GO and if it will be through more special research tasks or through raids. This Pokemon is dual Psychic and Dark-type, unline Confined Hoopa. This makes it weak to Bug and Fairy-type moves while only resisting Psychic-type moves.
