Pop Singer Louane Teams Up With Pokemon For Pikachu-Themed Music Video

Pokémon’s 25th anniversary celebration is adding another popstar to the festivities. French singer Louane has released a brand-new song, “Game Girl”, in collaboration with Pokémon. The track will be part of Pokémon 25: The Album that is set to hit shelves sometime this fall. Along with the song, Louane released an electrifying music video featuring everyone’s favorite Pokémon, Pikachu.

“Game Girl” is a catchy, bilingual bop that shares the journey that most people take through life with a close friend or partner. The song points to the themes of figuring out who you are as a person and being the absolute best version of yourself you can be. The video for the track is a colorful journey through Louane’s imagination as influenced by the evolving world of Pokémon, complete with Pikachu’s lightning bolts and a giant floating Pokéball in the sky. Viewers are treated to a journey through the different elements that Pokémon can represent, including water, electric, and fire, as well as a cameo from Pikachu themselves.

In an official press release from Pokémon, Louane shared that the decision to do this collaboration was a no-brainer: “Pokémon was one of my earliest childhood memories! I fell in love with Ash at first sight! I didn’t hesitate at all when asked to join the P25 Music Program. It was really inspiring to have the opportunity to write a story based on what I experienced as a kid.”

As for the decision to bring Louane on board and to have the song incorporate both English and French lyrics, the Vice President of Pokémon’s marketing revealed that that was an intentional move to “represent the global resonance of Pokémon with international fans”.

Louane’s track joins several other big artists contributing to the anniversary album. Earlier this year, pop superstar Katy Perry collaborated with Nintendo for the song “Electric”. The video for the song showed Perry with her life-long buddy Pichu as they have adventures and fun. The video culminates in Pichu evolving into Pikachu, showing the bond between the two. Perry and Louane’s tracks will be joined by music from Post Malone, J Balvin, Mabel, and more that have yet to be announced.
