Promo Art For Ms. Marvel’s Disney+ Show Indicate Big Changes To Her Powers

New promo art for the upcoming Ms. Marvel show on Disney+ suggests that the hero will have a different power set than the one she's known for.

The image was shared by Twitter account MCU Facility and shows Ms. Marvel standing with her fist raised. The Twitter account is not an official Marvel channel, but the poster claims that it is official artwork and has since shared similar artwork for upcoming films and shows What If? and Shang Chi. The image, which clearly represents Ms. Marvel actress Iman Vellani, is notable because of the glowing purple armor that covers her left fist. This indicates that Ms. Marvel will have a new power in the upcoming Disney+ show, either in addition to or instead of her famous "embiggen" abilities.

Casual Marvel fans were likely first introduced to Ms. Marvel as the protagonist of the Square Enix game Marvel's Avengers. In the game, as in the comics, Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan is a teenager whose Inhuman lineage is activated by a Terrigen bomb. The transformation gives her the ability to stretch, grow, and transform different parts of her body. In the game, Ms. Marvel can use her power to stretch her legs across chasms, turn her fists into huge wrecking balls, and grow her entire body to the size of a giant. At no point in either the game or the Marvel comics can Kamala cover his fist in purple armor, so it's surprising to see her portrayed here with an unfamiliar power.

In fact, rumors circulated months ago that Ms. Marvel would make use of Kree technology in the upcoming series, so that be the source her new purple power. The Kree, who were featured in Marvel's Captain Marvel, are set to make their return in both Secret Wars on Disney+ and The Marvels, an upcoming sequel to Captain Marvel that features both Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel. While the film is set to premiere after the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series, it may give us some clues as to where Kamala got this new ability.

Ms. Marvel does not yet have a release date, but Disney has announced that the series is coming to Disney+ later this year.
