Recent Abandoned Rumor Suggests It’s Actually A Metal Gear Solid Game

The rumor mill surrounding cinematic survival horror game Abandoned has been quite varied, to say the least. A lot of the speculation has focused on the possibility of Blue Box Studios' mysterious game secretly being a Kojima project. While many have taken this to assume that Abandoned was actually a Silent Hill game, a recent leak appears to suggest that it's actually a mainline entry in another of Kojima's famous game franchises.

Russian gaming journalist and industry insider Anton Logvinov revealed in a tweet that Blue Box Studios' Abandoned is actually a new entry in Kojima's Metal Gear series. Surprising as it may sound, this wouldn't be the first time that a connection is made between the two games. Days earlier, Blue Box released an image for Abandoned that featured a character that shares blatant similarities with Big Boss.

The original tweet is in Russian but translating it reveals that, according to Logvinov, Abandoned looks a lot like Metal Gear Solid 6. He further clarified by suggesting that Konami is currently working on the highly anticipated sequel and added that, apparently, someone made the deliberate choice to imitate Kojima's marketing. The tweet ends with a somewhat bizarre statement most likely the result of an error in translation: “So grandpa will be canceled. But a reunion is better, of course.”

Logvinov alternatively suggested that Konami could just be gearing up for the announcement of a remake. Logvinov has a bit of credibility when it comes to leaks of upcoming game releases. In addition to confirming PC ports for Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding, the journalist was also one of many leakers who brought up the possibility of a Bloodborne remaster for PS5 and PC.

On the other hand, the idea of a Metal Gear game from Konami without Kojima is a little hard to believe. He still maintains ownership of both franchises, and insiders have recently reported that Kojima has plans for an Xbox game rather than a PS5 exclusive. Either way, this information should absolutely be taken with a grain of salt.

It's worth noting that although the chances of Abandoned being a Kojima project are slim, Blue Box Game Studios' constant Kojima connections are quite intriguing. While Blue Box has done all that it could to refute any connections to the game auteur, most of its advertising references his most famous gaming franchises.

As of today, the Abandoned Realtime Experience app can finally be pre-loaded, though fans shouldn't expect much else. It won't officially go live until August 10 and the trailer isn't set to drop until some time in late August.

Abandoned is in development for PS5.
