Until July 26, you can trial Red Dead Online for free and you can play it without a PS Plus subscription.
Typically, in order to use the online functionalities of a game, you would need PS Plus. However, Rockstar has negotiated a deal with Sony that means this is no longer the case for the next two weeks so that people can dive in free of charge to get a taster of this western equivalent to GTA Online.

To play beyond this trial phase, you'll need to get both a PS Plus subscription and a copy of the game. You can purchase Red Dead Online standalone for £17.99 or you can get it as part of the Standard Edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 which is currently £54.99.
Otherwise, Blood Money is out now, adding robberies, shakedowns, and more. If you pop over to Saint-Denis and have a chat with Guido Martelli, you can take on various new Crimes and Opportunities.
There are also three new Crime Contracts. There's the Railroad, Jeb Phelps, and Bluewater Contracts. Rockstar has also implemented the brand new Quick Draw Club which is a "series of rapid-fire passes." Each will set you back 25 Gold Bars, giving you 25 Ranks. You'll get your investment back if you power through every rank, however.
While you can dive in for free right now, there is also a slew of discounts. Currently, you can get 30% off all Role Improved Saddles, Saddlebags, the Bounty Wagon, the Varmint Rifle, and the Navy Revolver. The Camp Dogs, Themes, Gus' Store's Clothing, and all Ponchos are also 40% off.
To top all this off, Red Dead Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 now support Nvidia DLSS. That's a lot of incentives to at least give it a try, so saddle up, grab your revolver, and get ready to either be the Wild West's newest hero or its latest addition to the board of wanted posters.
