Red Dead Redemption 1 remaster underway at Rockstar claims rumour

The latest rumour suggests that the next Rockstar game to get the remaster treatment will be 2010 classic Red Dead Redemption.

Almost the first thing that happened once the GTA Trilogy remasters were confirmed, was fans trying to guess what Rockstar game would be revitalised next.

That’s not unreasonable, as Rockstar parent company Take-Two has often talked about how keen it is on remasters in general, even if it’s always left the actual announcements up to Rockstar.

However, French YouTube channel Rockstar Mag’ claims that a remaster of 2010 title Red Dead Redemption is already in development and will be similar in scope to the GTA ones.

Rockstar Mag’ has proven to have insider information in the past but in this case it hardly seems necessary, given how obvious a guess Red Dead Redemption is.

Not only that but the game is heavily referenced in Red Dead Redemption 2 – well beyond the amount you’d normally expect from a sequel/prequel – so it would make sense to keep it in circulation and with up-to-date visuals.

The rumour claims that this is very much a remaster, in the same style as GTA: The Trilogy, and not a full remake, so you shouldn’t expect it to look as good as Red Dead Redemption 2.

However, Red Dead Redemption 1 was originally released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so it’s already a generation ahead of GTA 3 and its follow-ups.

Unfortunately, Rockstar Mag’ doesn’t offer any suggestion of when it might be released, except that it won’t be any time soon.
