Without a doubt, Rockstar put a lot of work in making all the little details in Red Dead Redemption 2 stand out. It’s impressive all the way around, whether it’s considering how dead bodies in RDR2 decompose or how cities and figures compare to their real-life counterparts. Of course, nothing is perfect, and Red Dead Redemption 2 has its own small, sometimes funny errors.
For example, mirrors in Red Dead Redemption 2 don’t reflect environmental effects such as blood. It’s a small thing, of course, but it’s all normal in video games. Mirrors missing this reflection doesn’t hurt the game, nor does the fact that there is another, somewhat similar flaw dealing with Colm O’Driscoll. All of these things are interesting to know, though.

The latest flaw was discovered by a redditor who used photo mode during Colm O’Driscoll’s hanging. For those who may have forgotten, during the Beaver Hollow Chapter, Arthur and friends prevent the O’Driscoll’s from rescuing Colm and he is ultimately hanged. A priest is there for Colm’s last rites, and as Red Dead Redemption 2 puts it over and over again, “The Last Rites Go Here.”
Some players may be able to spot it without the use of photo mode, but it is much easier with it. That phrase is repeated on the priest’s paper ten times, likely as a placeholder for a legitimate transcription of The Last Rites. A placeholder, then replaced with real content, is typical in game development, and it seems to be what happened here in Red Dead Redemption 2.
It’s worth repeating that this does nothing to harm the game, but is a small flaw in an otherwise immaculately-detailed game. Chances are, it is something that was forgotten about during Red Dead Redemption 2’s development, but as many Redditors point out, mistakes like this in a game as big as this show how much work goes into the small details. Rockstar could have, in theory, filled it with indecipherable scribbles and thought nothing more of it.
However, it seems clear that the developer intended to put in the actual Last Rites for Colm O’Driscoll’s death in Red Dead Redemption 2. It's such a small detail that many players would have never noticed it, just as how such a flaw goes unnoticed for so long, but the fact Rockstar intended to include it speaks volumes. As such, flaws like these only add to the charm of the game, not detract from it.
