Resident Evil Village

Capcom have announced Resident Evil Village has sold 4 million units worldwide; selling faster than the prior three titles in the series.

As of May 11th, Resident Evil Village sold 3 million units worldwide; just four days after its launch. This has now been trounced by the end of May announcement that the game has sold 4 million units.

VGC notes this also means the game sold faster than the prior three entires; Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (3.5 million copies in nine weeks), Resident Evil 2 (2019) (four million in a month), and Resident Evil 3 (2020) (2.7 million over three months). However, Resident Evil 6 sold 4.5 million copies on its first day; though was later met with luke-warm critic and user review scores [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].

Capcom state they remain “firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all stakeholders by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities.”

In earlier news, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was announced to have sold 9 million units as of March 31st, 2021. This made it Capcom’s second best selling title, and the best selling Resident Evil game; as Capcom consider each entry of Resident Evil 4 as a separate game, divided by platform. In total, Resident Evil 4 sold 10.7 million units.

It was also announced that Monster Hunter: World sold 17.1 million units, with the Iceborne expansion selling 7.7 million units.
