Rocket League Season 4 Adding 2v2 Tournament Mode and More

After nearly 4 months of grinding Competitive matches and completing the Season 3 Rocket Pass, players are finally getting ready for a new season of Rocket League. While Psyonix has yet to reveal the Rocket Pass for Season 4, the developers recently provided an update regarding Tournaments. With the start of Season 4, 2v2 Tournaments along with additional Tournament modes are being added to the game.

Released back in 2018 and then reworked when Rocket League went free-to-play in 2020, Competitive Tournaments provide players with a chance to face off against 32 different teams in single-elimination brackets. Those entered in these Tournaments receive credits to use on rewards exclusive to the mode, while winners of these competitions earn titles corresponding to the rank and season of the Tournament (e.g. Season 3 Diamond Tournament Winner). These Competitive Tournaments have always been 3v3, but that is changing in the near future.

Recently, it was announced that 2v2 Tournaments are coming to Rocket League at the start of Season 4. In addition, fans of the game's other modes are finally getting a chance to compete for Tournament glory, as next season introduces the new category called Extra Mode. This new Tournament mode features fan favorites Rumble, Hoops, Snow Day, and Dropshot. While players will be able to earn Tournament Credits and Tournament Winner Titles in both Competitive and Extra Mode Tournaments, player rankings will not be impacted in Extra Mode events.

Another exciting aspect of this new update is an increased amount of Tournaments available to play throughout the week. While players will now be able to choose 2v2 and Extra Mode Tournaments, fans of classic 3v3 Tournaments will still have plenty of opportunities to compete. According to the update from Psyonix, the new weekly schedule will include anywhere from 8 to 13 more Tournaments than in the previous season. As Rocket League continues to increase in popularity, this is an exciting change for fans looking to join a scheduled tournament in Season 4.

In addition to these modes, Pysonix plans to update the Tournament UI when the new season launches. These updates include a Tournament history feature that allows players to review their previous performances.

This will be a nice inclusion to the game, as currently, players have no way to see past results and stats from Tournament play. While Tournaments include a separate ranking system compared to regular Competitive modes, there hasn't been a way to see a player's Tournament Rank in-game. The upcoming update fixes this issue by displaying the user's rank directly on the Tournament home screen.

As new seasons only come around roughly every 4 months in Rocket League, this update from Psyonix regarding Tournaments should create quite a buzz surrounding the release of Season 4. With the reveal of a Double XP Weekend going on now through August 9, this is a great time for new players to jump into Rocket League.

Rocket League is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
