Roots Of Pacha Is Stardew Valley Via The Flintstones

Last we heard from Roots of Pacha, the cozy game coming from two-brother studio Soda Den, the game had just launched its Kickstarter and was fully funded in less than 24 hours. A month later, over 7,000 backers pumped over $350,000 into this stone age Stardew-like.

Now, courtesy of Gamescom's Awesome Indies showcase, we're getting our first look at some alpha gameplay.

Brothers Timo and Johnny narrate the trailer, which shows plenty of farming, fishing, and animal domestication. The farming looks particularly involved, including things like stone ovens, butter churns, and drying racks for making dried fruits. You even make an irrigation system–something that very few stone-age civilizations had. But hey, Roots of Pacha is a cozy game about humanity, not history.

Animal domestication apparently involves soothing their savage souls through music. A flute guides these beasts from obeying the laws of the jungle to obeying friendly humans, even going so far as letting those humans ride on their backs. You can tame a llama, a boar, and a mammoth, with dogs shown on the Roots of Pacha website.

Those familiar with Stardew will find a lot in common with Roots of Pacha's menus and inventory system, which seems to allow up to 10 items in a bar across the bottom of your screen. There are likely other storage options as well, but we'll have to wait for later trailers to learn about them.

According to the Roots of Pacha Kickstarter, the game will also feature an extensive social system as more people arrive in your village. There will also be tools for metalworking, pottery, art, and tons of buildable structures like huts, bridges, sundials, and more.

Roots of Pacha will arrive sometime in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, where you can wishlist the game for instant updates.
